101: Brass Recycling

Brass Recycling 101

Valley Recycling | Brass Alloy

Brass is actually an alloy, meaning it’s a combination of 2 or more metals.  In this case Copper and Zinc.  Zinc is added to the Copper to make it harder and stronger.  This makes it perfect for making things like instruments or bullet casings that need to be flexible but durable at the same time.  Brass is also perfect for making pipes, due to it’s resistance to corrosion, and its gold color makes it a great decorative metal.

Brass recycling is something we do at Valley Metals.  We accept 2 types of Brass,  Yellow Brass and Red Brass.  These metals are separated by the amount of zinc in each and can be easily distinguished by their color.  Not sure what kind of Brass you have?  That’s ok, you can still bring it to us and we’ll tell you.  Then we can sort the metal and pay you, it’s as easy as that.  That’s why we’re the best local recycler around!
